Thanks to a partnership with Hot Topic, updated and new content focuses on creating a culture of support and well-being; MHA also releases new research that spotlights the need for organizations to continue investing in DEI practices and programs
Alexandria, VA – Mental Health America (MHA) today, in partnership with the Hot Topic Foundation, launched a Workplace Wellness Resource Center for professionals in human resources, employee wellness groups, people management, organizational leadership, as well as resources for workers.
The resource center includes downloadable tools and features relevant and broadly applicable resources and best practices, emphasizing the importance of providing benefits that meet workers’ mental health care needs. MHA recognizes that every organization needs different levels of support, which is why the resource center is organized to meet companies where they are on their journey to make mental health a priority.
“Our research shows how prioritizing workplace well-being, safety, and equity supports improved worker health and productivity,” said Schroeder Stribling, MHA president and CEO. “While each organization may be different, there is unanimity among experts and thought leaders that a clear and consistent commitment to creating and maintaining healthy workplaces is not only good for people, it’s good for business.”
The launch includes a case study on Hot Topic, the pop culture and music-inspired retail chain with over 9,000 employees across the U.S. The case study highlights its supportive culture and companywide investment in mental health support for employees.
MHA today is also releasing new research that puts a spotlight on the need for organizations to continue investing in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and programs. Evidence shows that improved worker health, increased employee engagement and retention, and decreased stress in the workplace are consistent outcomes found in organizations that are investing in creating psychologically safe and equitable work environments.
Through the hundreds of companies MHA works with through its national Bell Seal Certification for Workplace Mental Health, MHA has found that the companies consistently investing in the skills and support of its people, beyond implementing policies and programs, are making the greatest difference in the health of their workers and the organization. The new resource center builds on this knowledge by providing leaders with scripts, checklists, and easy guides that can help cultivate supportive people managers, develop an employee-driven mental health strategy, increase flexibility, and more. The application period for the 2024 Bell Seal Certification, which recognizes, guides, and elevates employers committed to creating mentally healthy workplaces, opens in January.
“We spend an enormous amount of our lives in the workplace, and we know that managerial support strongly correlates with employee empowerment and positive mental health outcomes,” said Suzi Craig, MHA vice president of workplace mental health. “As leaders plan for 2024, we hope these free, evidence-based resources are leveraged to improve the worker well-being and overall workplace culture.”
